Feature film, color, 2001, 90 min CAST: Carice Van Houten, Theo Maassen, Pierre Bokma, Sarah Bannier, Olga Zuiderhoek, Jack Wouterse, Hans Kesting, Kees Hulst… CREW: Directed by Vincent Bal Produced by Burny Bos / Bos Bros Written by Tamara Bos, Vincent Bal and Burny Bos Based on ‘Minoes’ by Annie MG Schmidt D.O.P.: Walther Van den Ende Sound: Mark Glynne Music: Peter Vermeersch Art Direction: Vincent De Pater Based on a book I loved as a child, so when Burny Bos asked me to direct this, it was a no-brainer. After we spent several months casting for the perfect actress for the lead, and were delighted to find the wonderful Carice Van Houten, it turned out she was allergic to cat hair… Long live anti-allergy pills! Some of the cat’s dialogue was inspired by things they ‘improvised’ on the set. (Like falling down from the curtains.) This film won the Gouden Kalf award for best Dutch Feature Film in 2002 (along with some 15 awards worldwide). Was also released in Japan! Check out some storyboards here, and the IMDB page here.
