THE BLOODY OLIVE

Short Film, B&W, 1996, 10 min CAST: Veerle Van Overloop, Frank Focketyn, Géne Bervoets CREW: Written and directed by Vincent Bal Produced by Erwin Provoost and Hilde De Laere / Multimedia Based on Imbroglio by Lewis Trondheim D.O.P.: Philip Van Volsem Sound: Griet Van Reeth and Benoit Biral Music: Hans Helewaut Art Direction: Gert Stas Based on a tiny comic book by French artist Lewis Trondheim, this was my first short film after Film School, in 1996. We built the whole set in an old TV studio, which was then used by a film school. Everything went the old fashioned way, we even still edited this on an old Steinbeck editing table. Somebody made a shot-by-shot remake of this film and put it on YouTube! The film went on to win some twenty prizes in festivals around the globe. At a certain point, a festival in the states even gave out a ‘Bloody Olive’-award for best crime short! Check out some storyboards here, and the IMDB page here.
